Japanese Embassy Project: 2520 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008
The Embassy facility was experiencing low flow to their cooling tower due to undersized and deteriorating condenser water piping. The existing piping was 8” and the entire loop was approximately 500 feet.
The existing 8” steel piping was removed and replaced with 10” weld for the entire length of run. The system was refilled, leak checked and accepted for close in. The walls and ceilings were repaired and the marble wall was reinstalled in the lobby to match existing. The temporary partition was removed and the Embassy was returned to its original condition with the finished product acceptance by the owner.
Through the course of the project the Embassy remained open for business and the occupant impact was minimal.
Fannie Mae: 13150 Worldgate Drive, Herndon Virginia
Welch and Rushe replaced all the chillers and cooling towers for both Worldgate Building 1 and Worldgate Building 2 in Herndon, Virginia. Each building is over 190,000 square feet. During the project, Welch and Rushe managed several top-level subcontractors, insuring a timely completion.
Pipe systems were assembled in their pre-fabrication shop and cranes were used to load materials and equipment into place. Throughout the course of the project all systems were continually running, resulting in minimal impact on the occupants.
Peabody Early Childhood Center: 425 C St NE, Washington, DC 20002
Peabody’s HVAC system received a new Daikin VRV system, AAON Split System, exhaust fans and electric heaters. The new plumbing system included new risers, mains, plumbing fixtures and equipment.
Welch and Rushe began the project during the school’s summer break and was able to complete everything within seven weeks. Tradesmen worked twelve hour days, seven days a week in mid 90 degree weather, in order to meet the stringent deadline.
With the completion of the renovation before the start of school, students were able to begin the year in comfort.
